Born in Munich in 1984. Studied BA Film at Edinburgh College of Art. From 2010–2017 camera studies at the University of Television and Film in Munich. In 2016 Julian was nominated for the Camerimage Cinematographers Debuts Award with AGONIE and in 2017 he was nominated for the First Steps Michael Ballhaus Camera Award with his graduation film LUFT. With OUR WILDEST DREAMS he wins the Best Cinematography Award at the Rhode Island Int. film festival. In the summer of 2018 ALLES IST GUT was awarded a Golden Leopard for ‘Best First Feature’ at the Locarno Film Festival. In 2019 HI, AI wins the Max-Ophüls Prize and is nominated for the German Film Prize. In 2022, Julian was awarded the German Camera Prize for the documentary series DIG DEEPER. Julian lives in Munich and Berlin. He is a member of the Federal Association of Cinematography (bvk), the European Film Academy and the German Film Academy.
