Julian first studied film in Scotland at the Edinburgh College of Art and the Shrishti School of Art in Bangalore, India. Later he continued his studies in  cinematography at the University of Television and Film in Munich and graduated with the feature film LUFT (Dir. Anatol Schuster) which was nominated for the First Steps Cinematography Award and won the Berlinale Perspektive Award. His further credits include the feature film AGONIE (Dir. David Clay Diaz) which premiered at the  Berlinale Film Festival and was nominated at Camerimage for Best Debut Cinematography Award and A DYSFUNCTIONAL CAT (Dir: Susan Gordanshekan) which also premiered at the Berlinale Film Festival. With the feature documentary OUR WILDEST DREAMS (Dir. Marie Elisa Scheidt) he received the Best Cinematography Award at the Int. Rhode Island Film Festival. The latest feature film ALLES IST GUT (Dir: Eva Trobisch) won several awards including the Golden Leopard for Best Debut at the Locarno Film Festival.
